The Colegio Mixto de Bachillerato was created by ordinance number 26 of December 1969 , emanating from the Asamblea Departamental, Governor Dr. Clemente Díaz Granados Caballero. On July 22, 1970, academic work began at the Escuela Urbana de Varones (today IED ALFONSO LÓPEZ), with the first year of high school, through operating License number 150 issued by the Secretaría de Educación Departamental. In 1971, License Number 002 authorized the 2nd, 3 rd , and 4th grades of baccalaureate, for the years 1971, 1972, and 1973. In the month of January 1971, the College moved to where it currently operates (on the land of the old agricultural farm). Its first rector was Dr. Joaquín De la Peña Urbina, who served for three months as rector Ad-honorem, replaced by the priest Saúl García De la Ossa and as secretary, Ernesto Garrido Amador, who also served as a teacher along with 5 other classmates.
